Special Needs Planning

At Cheever Law, APC we are committed to providing comprehensive estate planning for families with special needs children.  If you are raising a child with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy or other intellectual or developmental disabilities, there are a host of complex medical, financial and social issues involved.

Not only can we show you ways to obtain the assistance you need today, we can help ensure you have a plan for your child that will provide them with the finances they need to live rich, full lives, while preserving access to government benefits.

Understanding there are unique challenges presented by children with special needs, our goal is to ensure that you can provide the financial assets your child will need to live a quality of life without jeopardizing their eligibility for government benefits.

The most important tool we can use to protect your child with special needs is a Special Needs Trust.

Special Needs Trusts

The purpose of a special needs trust is to create a fund to supplement the services and care that are not covered by government assistance programs while maintaining the eligibility of such programs, such as Medi-Cal and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Not only does the needs of a special needs child change over time, so does your finances and the laws governing eligibility and benefits of government assistance programs.  A Special Needs Trust must be part of a comprehensive estate plan completed by an attorney experienced in this complex area of the law.

We have helped many families protect their special needs children by ensuring they have the benefits they need now and in the future so you can rest assured you are in great hands.  To learn more about special needs planning, contact us and download the Special Needs Guide by clicking here.  (TARA – Link to download).
